Position: K–12 Computer Science Teacher

About the Role:
The Computer Science Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging, hands-on computer science instruction for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. This role involves fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through coding, robotics, digital literacy, and technology integration. The teacher will collaborate closely with colleagues across grade levels to integrate technology into the broader curriculum, preparing students for a technology-driven world while supporting the mission and values of the American International School of Conakry.
Selection Criteria:
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Education with a Computer Science focus.
International Teacher Certification preferred.
Knowledge of AERO Standards and ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) standards preferred.
Experience teaching computer science or technology to multiple grade levels (K–12).
Knowledge of programming languages (such as Python, JavaScript, or Scratch).
Familiarity with robotics, coding platforms, and digital learning tools.
Experience living in Sub-Saharan Africa is preferred but not required.
Flexibility, creativity, and strong communication skills.
Demonstrated Ability to:
Design and implement engaging computer science lessons for all grade levels (K–12).
Integrate technology into various subject areas in collaboration with classroom teachers.
Support students in developing computational thinking, coding, and digital citizenship skills.
Organize and lead technology-related clubs, events, or competitions (e.g., Coding Club, Robotics).
Maintain and manage technology resources and equipment.
Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain an up-to-date, standards-based K–12 computer science curriculum.
Teach and differentiate instruction for students across grade levels and ability ranges.
Integrate digital tools and learning platforms into classroom instruction.
Maintain assessment and grading systems using Google Classroom and other platforms.
Provide quarterly progress reports and semester report cards with comments.
Collaborate with teachers to enhance classroom learning through technology integration.
Organize technology-related school events such as coding challenges or robotics showcases.
Support professional development for staff in using digital tools effectively.
Maintain computer lab inventory and assist with basic troubleshooting of classroom technology.
Contribute to weekly instructional updates and monthly unit plans.
Lead or support an extracurricular club related to technology, robotics, or coding.
Supervise students during field trips, school events, or after-school activities as needed.
Perform other duties as requested by the Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Maintain up-to-date lesson plans throughout the year.
● Teach Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies and social skills to children in 3rd grade.
● Deliver lessons daily incorporating Learning Targets, Essential Questions and Success Criteria.
● Conduct shared inquiry discussions with students using Junior Great Books materials.
● Maintain an assessment and grading system based on the AERO Standards
● Submit grades and comments on quarterly Progress Reports quarterly and on semester Report Cards.
● Administer MAP (Measure of Academic Progress in Math, English and Science) Assessment
over the course of the academic year.
● Analyze, apply and explain MAP assessment data to parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
● Take an active leadership role in school-wide Curriculum Mapping.
● Order and maintain inventory of 3rd grade materials, equipment and books.
● Maintain class discipline, follow-up, feedback and documentation.
● Make parental contacts.
● Take part in the Parent-Teacher Conferences.
● Monitor and annotate student notebooks, folders, and portfolios.
● Develop and utilize rubrics in 3rd grade.
● Contribute to and update the school's Monthly Unit Plans.
● Take an active role in weekly professional development sessions.
● Attend training in primary school instruction, if available.
● Conduct Parent Workshops on 3rd grade learning targets outside of school hours.
● Lead and facilitate a Student Club of one's interest.
● Take part in planning, leading, and participating in day field trips with other primary school teachers.
● Perform other duties as directed by the Director.
