HISTORY

Established in 1963, The American International School of Conakry has been providing an American-style education to students living in Guinea's capital city. The school originally opened to educate the dependents of US Embassy employees, but quickly grew to welcome local students, and students from around the world. Today, the student body and staff represent around 40 countries. AISC is a State Department member school, is accredited with MSA-CESS, and belongs to the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA).

For many years, AISC was located on an ocean-front campus downtown in Matam. In 2015, with the generous support from the US Department of State, the school moved to its present, larger campus in Nongo, next to the National Stadium. Student enrollment doubled quickly after making this move, and continues to grow today.

Instruction at AISC is delivered in English and offers an American style curriculum based on the AERO standards. Up until 2017, we offered classes from K through grade 8, with high school students being enrolled with the University of Nebraska high school correspondence  diploma program. With our re-accreditation visit in 2017, the school could begin to offer high school classes and graduate seniors with an AISC Diploma, and have been doing so since 2021. In the same year, AISC also began offering AP classes, and can now provide up to seven AP courses in its high school program.

The American International School of Conakry has a 60 year history that has seen many changes over the years, which has evolved into what we have become today. Our new campus, growing faculty, and diverse student body enrich us, and help us in continuing to provide for the educational needs of our local, and international communities
